In the last year, we have seen a surge in HR groups talking about the future of HR. We have Disrupt HR, Hacking HR, CHRO Leadership Summit,and countless local HR groups in addition to our strong SHRM chapters. This indicates that HR professional everywhere are getting together and talking about being more impactful for businesses and what the landscape looks like as we march into the 21st century. The talk is about analytics, ‘speaking the language’ of finance, understanding how the business generates revenue, and maintaining robust talent pipelines. What’s missing is how to structure your HR team to not only keep up but get ahead!

SHRM is promoting the future of HR where our role is to‘Understand and Support Business Strategy’, ‘Leverage Strategic Workforce Planning’, ‘Measure Organizational Effectiveness’, and ‘Retain, Engage, and Develop Talent’ (SHRM 2018 Together Forward). We can absolutely do those things, but how, with what competencies? Most people ‘fall into’ HR or want to ‘help people’; we do not model well the behaviours of strategic leadership (at least in many small and medium sized business and in the non-profit sector). In reality, many HR teams do not make time to think about these things because we are busy over processing and focusing on defects. How can we change this?!

What is a SVELTE HR Team? A SVELTE HR Team is an intentionally designed group of HR Professionals who together can be HR of the future. All members of a SVELTE HR Team are Thoughtful and Engaged;demonstrating these behaviours to everyone in the organization. The members also consist of a varied array of competencies for operating in Strategic, Value Added, Effective, and Lean ways. When the team comes together, goals can be attacked with all of these strengths; leading to well-coordinated and professional outcomes. SVELTE HR Teams are a competitive advantage for the business.
